The Kenyan world champion achieves an undisputed victory as in the previous edition, while the young Ethiopian finishes with the resistance of Chelimo and Kifle. Abadía (7th) and Sánchez-Escribano (5th) were the best Spanish in the Juan Muguerza.

The winners of the senior categories were not the only protagonists, the youngest ones, were the ones in charge of starting a new edition of a race that has been characterized throughout its history, by the importance that has always given to the lower categories. A total of 276 athletes took part in the U-12 and U-14. We must not forget, for example, that Mamo Wolde, Olympic champion at the 1968 Mexico Games, gives his name to the junior race.
